  6. Hi Rachel, I’m running way behind schedule. I just finished the movie, “Volver,” and I’m a bit tired, so forgive me if I rush. The movie was about what I thought it might be. A really nice European movie, really nice. Nice cinematography with vivid colours and a decent music score. I can see clearly where some aspects of your music came from. It most certainly would blend with a few different scenes in “Volver.”

The mix on your “Almodovar” is the best mix of all the songs. I'll listen to the songs again tomorrow.

That song could just as easily be from David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, the mix lends itself to that. David called upon Julee Cruise and Angelo Badalamenti to create a dreamlike landscape for Twin Peaks and for the lyrics in his head. Together they all did a fine job. I think your song, “Almodovar,” would survive, if not thrive, in Twin Peaks. A juxtaposition in my mind.

I have always loved the way these songs were mixed. Please tell me if I’m wrong.

  7. And yes, will keep listening! Now's the perfect time: I'm catsitting my brother's two burmese kittens for the entire week, and they woke me up at 6.30, scratching the bedroom door and meaowing and wanting to play. Now they're having a nap and I've had lots of coffee.

By the way, you mentioned burning a CD of the songs earlier but they don't seem to be downloadable? Just wondering if I'm missing something.

  8. Dear E.L. Wisty – try putting a coin in the slot.

Good morning Rachel, here’s “Wild At Heart,” and Bobby Peru.

Frank, in “Blue Velvet,” was the epitome of evil, but Bobby Peru wasn’t far behind him. At least Bobby had a sense of humour, whereas Frank just came up blank. Frank laughed, oh how he laughed, but I don’t know if he ever laughed at a joke. If I was in his presence and I wanted to make him laugh, I have no idea how I would go about it. If you were to do a tribute to David Lynch, you’d have to let your hair down, but even if you let it touch the ground, I don’t know if that would suffice. It would certainly be a challenge and it might even be nice.

PS; Chris Isaak got a big break when David used his song, “Wicked Game.” Chris ended up getting a television series because of that song, and that song alone. He was probably the worst actor I’ve ever seen on the little screen, bar none. It was painful, but Wicked Game survived! Good going David, you chose a nice song.

WARNING – not for the weak at heart – HERE’S BOBBY PERU

(David Lynch movies have a lot of violence – either real or implied – in the case of Wild At Heart it isn’t implied so you may want to cover your eyes from time to time, I know I did.)

THE OPENING SCENE – IN THE MOOD – “OH-OH!”

  13. I don't know what you have up your sleeve, but I'm intrigued and would be happy to listen to anything more...an interpretation of Chopsticks, maybe whistling Dixie, or even if you'd just like to read a few pages out of the phone book.

    New mischief? I'm in.

  21. Dear E.L. Wisty, no, not necessarily.

First and Foremost, I’m trying to entertain Rachel. No, that would be silly of me, to think that she could be entertained so easily. It would be like asking her to watch a David Lynch movie on her Iphone – LOL – and I hope that’s not an infringement of any sort.

No, I’m just trying to enjoy what she’s doing as much as she is, as much as we all are, but with one small difference. I do tend to preach and try to prod people along towards the righteous one. Know what I’m sayin’?

I love doing things when it’s free. Don’t we all?

    No more questions, please.

“HI” AGAIN RACHEL, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to go off track and it won’t happen again. But I thought I should clear that up.

I DON’T KNOW if you found any of that “David Lynch” stuff interesting Rachel, I don’t even know if you bothered with any of it. But I would really like you to listen to this saxophone, it will only take about 20 seconds of your time, just a few blinks and it’s done. And I’d like to know if you think what I’m about to say is right.

OR - is my imagination running away with me? Was that sax just blowing a lot of balderdash? Since nobody really knows what a sax is SUPPOSE to sound like, did Buddy just get away with murder?

Here’s the song once again, Rachel.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmJzy0WrSXY

THE SAX comes in at the 2 MINUTE mark....

Tell your heart you make me cry
Tell your heart don’t let me die

That’s ALL the sax in that song was saying! Just in a different way. Like something you might hear in the Bronx. That’s all that was being said.

I don’t know whose idea it was to include that saxophone, Rachel, and then have the sax play those two particular lines? And then what? Who do you ask to play it? It certainly wasn’t written for David Sanborn. So who do you get to play it?

But, let’s set that aside for a moment, and return to the premise. Whose idea was it!

    Julee Cruise? Not a chance.

David Lynch? It wouldn’t surprise me. I can hear him now. “Let’s add a little pizzazz,” he may well have said to Badalamenti.

Or perhaps it was Badalamenti’s idea, and David just went along with it?

Some things Man was not meant to know - so let it go! Let’s not waste another minute here.

    Good night, Rachel

  22. Hi Rachel - wow, I'm amazed and heartened to hear Spud is still around - no doubt thanks to your love and care. I had given him up for lost a year ago!

My parents just lost their cat. My dad was SO attached to her - it's heartbreaking. It's esp. difficult when people get older. He says he doesn't want any more pets. I hope that's not true forever.

Anyway, glad things are well and happy in your home. :) ♥

lol - my word verifcation (the weirdest one ever): sessesse

  23. DEAR RACHEL, I didn’t mean to burden you with all those questions. That’s not why I’m here.

What I had meant to say to you today, was far more entertaining and a whole lot brighter! But I got thrown off track, and I went with that saxophone number, rather than what I had planned.

I think this is worth a listen. I think you might enjoy this simple little story. Boy meets girl … and so on, but with a touch of insight and a thoughtful guitar.

Tomorrow I shall speak of Almodovar, and of all the rest, I shall abstain.

THERES ABOUT A TEN SECOND DELAY BEFORE THIS SONG KICKS IN RACHEL

PS; if this video looks to be a bit Indian, it’s probably a reflection caused by all the orange – there is too much orange. Or is there? It does have a look about it.

    Until tomorrow....

  25. Dear Rachel, I did not like it when Hollywood went behind the scenes, and showed us how they made their magic. They actually showed us how it’s all done! You know, with blue screens and hanging wires, with gadgets and lots of makeup, with computer animation, and so on. Why in the world did they do that? Why did they reveal the magic? And why was I stupid enough to watch it?

When Hollywood said, “Now we’ll take you behind the scenes and show you how it’s all really done, we’re going to reveal all the magic,” why didn’t I just say, “No thank you?” Why didn’t I just say no?

Now I can’t watch the big Hollywood Blockbuster movies that have tons of action without seeing all the gimmicks. The wizardry is gone.

Would you like to hear a secret, Rachel? Not many people can say no to that.

Here’s some more “Orange” for your enjoyment. Here’s how sometyhing was actually done.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjiZHG_s-OI

Would you like to hear the strangest love song I’ve ever heard, Rachel?

This song has some elements of a typical love song, but the music is strange and crazy and almost at odds with itself. And oddly enough, it works for me, but for some others it might not. I like this strange love song and I think you will too.

Within the strangeness of it all, we look for the aspects that are familiar.
