FUCKING PEOPLE

Honestly - i really do not understand why i let myself get upset by things other people do and say.
It's an utterly pointless exercise. My being upset does not upset their day at all, only mine.
So i feel hurt, and they probably feel fabulous. You might say its because im only human - but when i am moved or upset by situations or things that happen to people i care about, i accept this, even though i may not be able to do anything about it.
Bugger.
Anyway - life is good - i feel grateful and am full of love, (and just a tincy bit of anger)
Hope you all have a good Sunday -

  1. Aw, so sorry someone has upset you.
Re-read The Four Agreements!! That book helped me so much.
If you always do what you feel in your heart is right, then screw what anyone else thinks!

The older I get, the less I care what people think or say about what I do.

Don't let the turkeys get you down!

    Lots of love,

  2. It's easy to say: it's pointless to be upset. And it's not logic. But it's not so simple in practise, eh? I'd like to think that the ability to get upset is often a sign of empathy. And in my experience - although I don't claim to really know you - you are a supremely empathetic person.

    Keep up the spirit! x

  3. I don't really care what other people say about me. It's when they start dissing others, the people that I care about, that I'll want to bear my fangs and go after them. But you're right, it does no good. We just have to remember those who have to drag others down will be bogged down themselves. Those who try to lift others will always rise up.

  6. Rachel, When I get angry at someone, I write a song. There is no better way to express the anger then in the form of music. Major chords are usually not part of the arrangement. ;-) Be well and have a good Sunday..

  8. oh, happy tea time. I'm way too much a convert to say much more than ... actually, you sound frustrated so you come from love. you do. and as your beau has said: don't worry about what other people think.

ignore, ignore. there is no delight or day in them.

  9. Hi Rachel,

"i really do not understand why i let myself get upset by things other people do and say."

It's because you are normal, and human, and have a heart!

It is enormously difficult to "not let it bother me" -- much easier said than done. So just feel it, acknowledge it, and then let it go. Which I think you just did!

    Happy Rest of Sunday.

  10. What a lovely sunday I've had: went out to lunch with sister and then to help her with her move. She bought a flat right in the middle of the city, with light wood floor and red tile wall. I LOVE it.

Now listening to Edith Piaf, unaccountably moved - or perhaps not unaccountably as I suppose many have been listening to Edith Piaf.

Hope that tincy bit of anger faded and you have had a wonderful sunday, or have had one despite! xo

  11. Dear Christ…, I mean Dear Rachel, here’s the key to your problem. It has to do with an old pet phrase, when you’re confronted by someone, someone that makes you upset. There is only one retort: “I’m sorry you feel that way,” and then you walk away. And forget about it.

Sounds easy! “Yeah the trash lines up at my door just to bring me the news. And all it does it make me kinda wonder, why are people so eager to be so cruel.” (Greg Keelor – Jim Cuddy)

It may not always be quite that easy, sometimes you have to say that little mantra more than once, “I’m sorry you feel that way,” more than twice, and so on, until you walk away. So, for however long it takes, you say but one thing: “I’m sorry you feel that way.” It’s an old cheap trick but it works more often than not.

Samuel Longhorne Clemens, said the German people, and I’ll paraphrase because I’m too lazy to look it up, but here’s what he said. “I found the German people to be the warmest most sentimental people that I met,” something like that. It was during his travels through Europe. He said things about the English as well. You might want to read-up on him, Rachel. He probably said the most fabulous things I’ve ever read. Yeah! Mark Twain was the best. But he wrote so much! Where do you begin?

You can begin anywhere, Rachel, cause this guy is beauty. And he’s FREE. Free to have said anything he wanted to say, and so he said a lot of things, and nobody can do a damn thing about it now! We can’t even threaten to punch him in the nose, or kidnap his kin, or shoot his dog, or anything. Some have said that all great American literature comes from Mark Twain. Some have actually gone so far as to say that.

Pete mentioned once that he’d read Huckleberry Finn, but I don’t think he’s read Mark Twain’s letters.

Here’s a start, Rachel. This is called, “Satan’s Letter.”

This is a strange place, and extraordinary place, and interesting. There is nothing resembling it at home. The people are all insane, the other animals are all insane, the earth is insane, Nature itself is insane. Man is a marvelous curiosity. When he is at his very very best he is a sort of low grade nickel-plated angel; at its worst he is unspeakable, unimaginable; and first and last and all the time he is a sarcasm. Yet he blandly and in all sincerity calls himself the "noblest work of God." This is the truth I am telling you. And this is not a new idea with him, he has talked it through all the ages, and believed it. Believed it, and found nobody among all his race to laugh at it.

Moreover -- if I may put another strain upon you -- he thinks he is the Creator's pet. He believes the Creator is proud of him; he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes, and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to Him, and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea? Fills his prayers with crude and bald and florid flatteries of Him, and thinks He sits and purrs over these extravagancies and enjoys them. He prays for help, and favor, and protection, every day; and does it with hopefulness and confidence, too, although no prayer of his has ever been answered. The daily affront, the daily defeat, do not discourage him, he goes on praying just the same. There is something almost fine about this perseverance. I must put one more strain upon you: he thinks he is going to heaven!

He has salaried teachers who tell him that. They also tell him there is a hell, of everlasting fire, and that he will go to it if he doesn’t keep the Commandments. What are Commandments? They are a curiosity. I will tell you about them by and by.

    Good night, Rachel

  12. sorry to hear that Rachel. I'm the same way. some jerk pulled around me on a harley the other day and slammed his breaks on, almost causing an accident. he was upset because he was behind me as we were both on 2 wheels lane splitting during rush hour. of course no room for me to pull left with all the cars stopped, he was behind me for a long time just revving his engine louder and louder, he wanted me to do 60MPH or something. So an opening came, he dodged around me, then slammed on his breaks and yelled at me with cars going by. I was really pissed off about it for a few days, we could have easily caused an accident, but then, what good does that do? what a shame we live in a world with so many assholes.

  17. Dear Rachel, my favourite prayer is by Voltaire, “Oh Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.”

Whenever I pray, that’s all I ever pray for! All the rest is for not. Oh sure, I’ve asked my Lord for other things in the past, like if He could see His way clear to give me the numbers for the next Lottery, and who hasn’t? But I’ve given up on that. Today, we simple discuss things, me and my Lord.

I say we “discuss” things but it’s more like a wrestling match than a discussion, I think. More like a tug-o-war, or a thoughtful little skirmish, a give and take, we debate things, so I suppose we could call that a discussion. Yeah, me and my Lord, we discuss things. And we have disagreements, but everyone knows the final outcome, He wins big time in the long run, but I get in some good jabs along the way. It’s an old story.

Speaking of Old, here’s Conway Twitty, Rachel. This is downright scary, so beware.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVb9-ppBP5Y

Whoa, I just thought of another prayer, “Dear Lord, please don’t have Conway waiting for me at the end of the tunnel when I arrive. I’ll take Celine Dion, I’ll take Buffy Sainte-Marie, I’ll take white fluffy clouds, Donald Trump, I’ll take Spanky from the Little Rascals, I’ll take damn near anything but please, no Twitty!”
It’s a hell of a prayer, but it might be too commanding. So maybe I’ll just go back to one. I don’t want to rock the boat, or as Hunter Thompson once said, “Call on God, but row away from the rocks.”

  19. I hate cliques too; hate 'em!! Always have.

And Gary - were you not on a Harley? (I'm wearing a Harley jacket... lol). (I thought Harley riders were supposed to be some of the most respectful; most are. This person sounded like an a-hole indeed!).
